Pin cushions

Many years ago I sewed a pincushion out of brown cotton material.
It was very useful over many years with it's soft insides which made it very easy to put needles in.

Over the years I realised that one of the needles must have slipped right inside as I occassionally felt a small prick from inside. I learned to treat it carefully and respectfully.

Today I finally decided to do something about it.. I sewed a new pincushion by hand, then opened the old brown one to remove the stuffing to use in the new one. Inside I found a pair of long-forgotten socks, one with a very large hole in the heel.

As I carefully pulled them out of the brown cover I found the wayward needle. And another, and then a third. In fact there were 5 needles inside, almost as many as on the outside.

Now they are arranged on the new pincushion.
