Rainbow coffee

The early morning sun and my coffee machine put on a rainbow display this morning. If I were superstitious I might think the gods were sending a message to our Prime Minister Tony Abbott who is opposing a proposed cross-party gay marriage bill.

I was once so naive I thought maybe Abbott just didn't get it, was uninformed about the social causes he opposes.  His stance on climate change has made me wise up and I am now convinced he understands but just doesn't care and that he is just the sort of politician corporates need to push their barrow. Our current government seems to be full of people who just don't care.

So I see the rainbow as a reminder that nature is beautiful and fragile and that we must join together to fight for her.

Picturesque crossing: Wellington to Picton

Cook Strait between Wellington and Picton is notoriously fickle-weathered but on 30th December it was as flat as a millpond. I was pleased to have decided to spend a night in Picton instead of driving straight on to Nelson (Jazz Festival), as Picton is picturesque and the Jugglers Rest backpackers wonderfully quirky.

Light rain alternated with sunny spells as the afternoon passed resultign in spectacular rainbows over the hills.

It is raining hard here but in bright sunshine, so we must be right at the bottom of the rainbow. Now where is that pot of gold?
